20's Love

I've just spent the last half-hour fixing photos Flickr so I could upload them to Chictopia, and now I am tired. I shall, nonetheless, try to write a post that is not only coherent, but, perhaps, inspiring.

Well yesterday, prompted by a dress that had a flapper feel to it, I did some research on the 20's and flappers. My conclusion is that I don't hate them as much as I thought I did - on the contrary, actually - they are now my newest obsession. I'm not saying I'd want to live back then or anything, but I do like some of the styles - some of them I liked even before I realized they were popular in the twenties, oxfords for instance.

While looking around at photo's from the twenties, I came across these beautiful ones:

The second to last photo is a picture of Gabrielle Chanel, founder of the Coco Chanel line. I just love her outfit! It's just so chic!

The last picture is a picture of Bessie Love, an actress of the 20's who stared mostly in silent films, but some early "talkies" too. I found several pictures of her here, and I love almost all of them. She looks so happy and cute and lady like. (I desperately want to get my hands on one of her films, I don't care if it's a silent or a talkie! If anyone has any ideas on where I could find one, I'd love any suggestions!) The funny thing about that particular picture of her is that I got a skirt almost exactly the same just a week or two ago! I didn't love it when I got it, but it was cute and for less than $3 I couldn't pass it up (though I nearly did! Now I'm so glad I didn't!). I hadn't worn it yet - until today. I decided to try my hand at a 20's inspired outfit, below are the results:

Alright, my family is watching a movie now, so I guess I'd better go, please comment!

  5. I love that shot of Clara Bow--it was probably my favorite outfit that she wore in "It." There's something so modern about that look.

  10. Thank you for the wonderful comment Caitie! I'm glad you like the dress and I would love to visit a candy shop/vintage shop like the one you described. There's a cute little candy store near where we live and sometimes Dan and I walk down there to buy a bag of assorted things. Vintage hats too! That sounds like sheer heaven:) I look forward to more posts when you get back...and completely understand about the slow connection. My parents still have dial up on their farm too.
